A Colourful Easter at Mas Baget: Horses, Shamans, Families and Friends
Easter at Mas Baget, our 18th-century country house in rural Catalunya, brought together a wonderfully mixed group of guests. The place was full of life, laughter and the occasional bit of chaos, just the way we like it.
At the top of the property, our large studio space hosted a Shamanic retreat. The group spent the weekend doing drumming, chanting and inner journeying, surrounded by trees and birdsong. When the retreat wasn’t in session, the space doubled as a games room. Rosa, our youngest daughter, and her partner went up one afternoon to christen the new handmade pool table, tucked alongside the table tennis table. One moment it’s a space for meditation, the next it’s home to a fiercely competitive ping pong match. That’s Mas Baget.
One of the bungalows was home to a family with two kids aged 7 and 9. They spent most of their time exploring outdoors and hanging out by the pool. Despite the water being freezing, the kids even braved a dip. Their laughter mixed with the birds in the trees and it was a joy having them here.
In the second bungalow, Rosa’s partner’s dad and his partner stayed with their dog Mocca. Mocca made herself very comfortable. She even managed to escape on the first night but was found the next morning happily sniffing her way around the grounds like she owned the place.
Rosa and her partner were in the studio room on the ground floor of the main house. That way they had a bit of privacy but were still close to everything going on.
Our friend Suzanne also came to visit, bringing her tiny but strong-willed chihuahua Maggie. Rosa tried hard to win her over but Maggie wasn’t having it. She kept her distance, eyeing everyone with suspicion from her favourite spot in the sun.
We also had a couple arrive on horseback. They were in the middle of a 30-day trek across Catalunya and were looking for places that could host both them and their horses. The horses were tied between the trees in front of the house and it was a beautiful sight to see them grazing under the pines. One horse managed to escape during the night and ate both of their rations, leaving the other horse less than impressed. Fortunately it was nothing a little hay and humour couldn’t fix.
Nick and Christian, good friends of ours from Barcelona, arrived too. Nick is a British actor and Christian, originally from Argentina, is an online English teacher with thousands of followers. They’re always making fun creative Reels for Instagram and often rope us and our guests into joining in. Whether watering the garden or sipping coffee on the terrace, you might suddenly find yourself part of a video.
We love how Mas Baget brings people together from different places, with different plans, but always with an open spirit. If you’re ever looking for a break from the usual routine, come and stay. You can wander through the garden, join in a pool game, maybe star in a Reel and enjoy the peace and good food that comes with life in the countryside.
